Casa Esmeralda is
a pretty two-floor apartment at 13 Via Cesare L’Ombroso, the
next street up the hill after Via Tavani Arquati where our other
apartments are situated. Like La Terrazza it has lovely roof terraces
with the same spectacular views of the Adriatic and the Old Town.

This apartment has the advantage of a completely
separate entrance away from the other three flats. It is an 18th
century house with lovely exposed stone vaulted ceilings. It can
sleep up to five people. The restoration was completed in July 2007.

A flight of stairs leads from the street door to
the first floor living room area which is very light and pleasant.
Here there is a TV and DVD player with a selection of English films
and books, four chairs and a divan which can be used as a single
bed. There is a small kitchen accessed via an attractive low stone
arch. It has an electric cooker and fridge. There are all the normal
kitchen utensils and crockery and cutlery for up to five people.

The living room has
the original wooden shutters leading on to a small wrought iron
balcony with plants where guests might like to sit in the evenings
as a cool breeze usually blows up the street. Two small folding
chairs and a small drinks table are supplied.

Above the living room area is a mezzanine floor
accessed by wooden stairs. Here there are two single beds with mosquito
nets. There is air conditioning to keep the room cool in summer
and an electric radiator to keep it warm in winter. All bed linen
and towels, including beach towels, are supplied.
The second floor bedroom and bathroom are accessed
via a wooden door onto a stone staircase. On the staircase is a
tiny WC and washbasin for use by people sleeping on the mezzanine
floor. Also on the staircase is an alcove for hanging clothes and
here you will find an iron and small ironing board.

The second floor bedroom has a double bed with
romantic 4-poster style mosquito netting. There is a separate integral
air-conditioning unit in this bedroom. Leading off this bedroom
is the main bathroom with bath and shower attachment, washbasin
and washing machine. A hairdryer is supplied.
Outside the second floor bedroom is a pretty terrace
with garden furniture and a simple barbecue. There is a light outside
the door which can be switched on from the bedroom and the roof
terraces, accessed by an exterior staircase, can also be illuminated.
The apartment also has two higher terraces with stunning views of
the Adriatic and the citadel of Ostuni’s lovely old town area.
This apartment is suitable for a couple, a couple
with two or three older children, or a couple with two or three
friends. (NB the mezzanine stairs are quite steep and the sleeping
accommodation here would not be suitable for young children. We
DO NOT RECOMMEND this apartment for children aged 2-7 as the terraces
are very high above street level and we could not ensure their safety).
